The in-situ concrete facade quietly yet boldly blends into the urban fabric with the white stucco inspired by plastered walls of traditional townhouses, like the one sitting next door. Guest rooms overlook Oike avenue, best known as venue of the famed Gion Festival. Taking full advantage of the commanding corner site, rooms are fitted with large expanses of floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing guests to fee; “immersed” into the city. Following Zen principles, a pared-down minimalist material palette is selected, including the signature gray-toned oak veneer and semi-translucent washi textured panels. Specially commissioned art by local artists interpret traditional craft techniques to create works of art that represent modern day Kyoto.

禅の精神に通ずるミニマリズムの中に、京都の伝統工芸にみられる繊細なプロポーションとディテールを感じられるホテルを目指してデザインした。御池通に面する客室は、角地を生かした大きな窓により風景が取り込まれ、そこに「住まう」ような街との一体感を感じることができる。水場はガラスや大型引戸で仕切られ、開放するとベッドルームと一体の空間となる。客室と共用部のインテリア素材は基調カラーの「ナチュラルグレーオーク」ほか数種類に限定し、館内どこにいても包み込まれるような滞在体験を得られるようにした。ロビー吹き抜けとレストラン、御池通を見下ろす「桟敷」をイメージしたラウンジとテラス、白と黒のミニマルな空間とした大浴場・メディテーションなど、共用空間各部においては統一されたデザインコードを展開している。陶、紙、漆の伝統技法をモダンに解釈したアート群が、館内要所において静かに「新しい京都」を発信する。
