The "Yanesen" area is celebrated for its atmospheric charm, temples, shrines, and traditional houses. Mindful of the project's scale, we engaged in extensive discussions on how to harmonize the building with the context while showing it due respect. Key concepts such as "volumetric articulation," "restrained self-expression," and "subtle materials and colors" were adopted, along with the theme "Shades of Gray," thereby limiting the material palette to gray tones while incorporating Japanese elements—such as wood and lattice work—into the facade. In the common area, a slanted wooden ceiling extends throughout. Lighting levels are kept low to highlight exquisite craftsmanship— lacquer, textiles, and Komatsu stone—transforming the residents' daily circulation paths into a space that evokes a sense of serenity, comfort, and richness.

人気の観光地である「谷根千」エリアは、多くの寺社と昭和の古民家が残る、都心で有数の風情豊かなまちとして知られている。本計画の規模と景観への影響を考えたとき、街並みへ敬意を払いながらここにフィットする集合住宅の姿とはいかにあるべきか。議論を重ね、「ボリュームの適度な分節」「自己主張の抑制」「上質な素材と色」といったキーワードを元に「鼠色の陰影」をテーマに設定した。そして、ファサードは素材をグレー系に限定し、コンクリートの質感を生かしながら木目や格子などの日本的な要素で繊細さを与えるデザインに帰着した。共用内部では、傾斜した木天井が隅々まで連続する。極限まで照度を抑えながら職人技が光る漆や織物、小松石などの作品にスポットを当て、居住者の日常動線を静寂と安堵感、そして豊かさを感じる空間として作り込んでいる。
