Before the flood control work in early Showa, the Arakawa River meandered near Funato, forming a series of “peninsulas”. Looking at a map from 100 years ago, we see that the River used to flow directly in front of the entrance lounge we designed, and that an oval-shaped sandbar also existed. Although the river is no longer there, we wanted to create a space that evokes the image of a living room facing the water and its bank. A single, flowing wall encompasses facilities shared by the 600 households—a library, cafe, kids' corner, and meeting booths—within the large space. Indoor green and art themed on "the sway of water" add color, while light streams in through the large windows. Each of the two guest rooms, designed as a wooden cabin, receives an art themed on "light".

昭和初期の治水工事前、大きく蛇行していた荒川の対岸から「浮島」のように見えたことから「浮間」の地名が生まれたと言われる。100年前の地図を見ると、我々がデザインを担当したエントランスラウンジの正面を川が流れ、楕円形の中州が存在していたことが確認できる。かつてそこにあった風景を想像しながら、水辺に面する大きなリビングルームをイメージした空間にしたいと考えた。600世帯がシェアするライブラリー、カフェ、キッズコーナー、会議ブースなどの利便施設を、流れるような１枚の壁が包含して大空間を蛇行する。「水辺のゆらぎ」をテーマにした３点のアートワークとインドアグリーンが彩りを添え、日中は大きな窓から光が入る。別棟にあるゲストルームは、木造の小屋をイメージした空間の中に「光」をテーマにしたアートを設置した。
